Sing Out Magazine

Sing Out is the Australian National Choral Association's national magazine. The magazine has 3 issues per year, autumn, winter, and spring.

The distribution of the magazine is approx 1000 nationwide.

Sing Out is an amalgamation of two publications. When the Australian Choral Association (ACA) and the Australian Choral Conductors Association (ACCA) merged so did their publications. The first Journal after the merger (Vol 7 No 1) bore the combined name "Choral Journal including Sing Out" but in subsequent issues the name Sing Out was retained, and the volume numbering of the original Sing Out was continued. This has developed through many styles and editors into the magazine we have today.

Our editor is Dr. Debra Shearer-Dirié. Dr Shearer Dirié completed her Undergraduate degree at the University of Western Australia. She holds a Diploma of Kodály Education from the Kodály Institute, Kecskemét, Hungary, a Master of Music Education degree and Doctorate of Music in Choral Conducting degree from Indiana University, USA. While at Indiana University she was director of the Indiana University Children's Choir and assistant director to Paul Hillier with the Pro Arte Singers. From 2000-2001, she was selected as Artistic Director of the Northwest Girlchoir in Seattle, a 400-voice ensemble which performed frequently with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Shearer-Dirié has presented at the National Conference of the American Choral Director's Association in New York 2003, and at the Australian National Choral Association conference in 2004 and 2006. In 2005, she was appointed Musical Director of the Brisbane Concert Choir and in 2006, founded the Vox Pacifica Chamber Choir. Dr. Shearer-Dirié lectures at The University of Queensland and is current editor of the Australian National Choral Associations Journal publication. She has just returned from New Zealand as one of four International Choral Clinicians giving workshops in their National Choral Conducting Clinics.

Advertising in Sing Out

We offer advertising both nationally and internationally to anyone who is considered of interest to the Australian Choral community.

Members may advertise for a discounted fee in the body of the magazine with events or items that are of National interest.

Discounts are offered to companies who book advertisements in more than one issue at the time of booking.
