| Description: |
Grab your bunting and flags, and join the Corinthian Singers of Adelaide for their Proms at St John’s. There will be the usual pomp and circumstance so join them in singing Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance, Parry’s setting of Jerusalem and Arne’s Rule Britannia.
As usual, there will be the marking of anniversaries of composers gone by, and dedications to musicians we have lost this year.
It is the five hundredth birth year of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. The choir will perform his Amor, quando fioriva and I vaghi fiori.
This year is also the four hundredth year of the death of Orlando Gibbons, whose work is commemorated with his madrigals Oh That The Learned Poets and the well known The Silver Swan.
Musicians we have lost this year, and remembered, are the American wit Tom Lehrer and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.
This concert will also feature the premiere of Where is my…waltz? by new resident composer Becky Llewellyn. Based on the poem by Althea Leonard it is a light-hearted look at forgetfulness.
Join in the pomp and circumstance and more at the Proms at St John’s. |
