On a bright and starry December night Follow the Star to St John’s Church, Halifax Street for a feast of festive music, and join the Corinthian Singers in a joyous celebration of Christmas. Here you’ll sing beloved carols with the choir and enjoy a cornucopia of joyful music, extolling the wonders of the nativity.
This concert at 8pm Friday 12 December will be repeated on the afternoon at 3pm Sunday 14 December. Both performances of Follow the Star will be candlelit, to add to the festive celebration.
The choir premieres a new work by Director of Music, Matthew Atherton, The Guide and the Gifts for the concert, a contemplative work based on The Following of the Star, by Australian poet Lucy Homfray.
Other highlights of the programme include Hodie Christus Natus Est by Palestrina and Australian composer, William James’ The Silver Stars Are In The Sky. The beautiful Minuit Chretien is the original French version of O Holy Night, with lyrics by Placide Cappeau and music by Adolphe Adam.
