Formed in 2010 (as Macedon Ranges Children's Choir), Young Voices of Macedon is a community choir for young people from the age of 5.
The choir offers quality music education for young singers. As well as challenging repertoire with an emphasis on the classical tradition of music, choristers are offered tuition in vocal technique, part-singing, aural training, sight reading and general musicianship. The choir comprises 2 groups - a training choir for under-8s and those in need of assistance with pitch and other skills, and a performing choir. There are numerous opportunities for the groups to sing together. An auditioned senior group allows for the singing of madrigals and other specialised repertoire.
The choir presents a major concert each year and takes part in numerous community events. In 2014 it was invited to perform at Choralfest at Monsolvat. It has also performed with the Gisborne Singers and the choir of the Anglican Parish of Gisborne. Workshops with other choirs, including the Bendigo Youth Choir feature in the programme. . The choir also performs on an occasional basis at services of local churches, including a formal carol service at the Church of the Resurrection, Macedon.
As well as the Director, Dianne Gome, Young Voices of Macedon is staffed by Assistant Conductors Lizanne Richards and Emma West and Accompanist Anna Clarke.
The rehearsal time is 4.15 5.45 pm on Thursdays during term time, at the Norma Richardson Hall, Buckland Street, Woodend.
