Austrian Harmonie Choir

Narrabundah, ACT

The Austrian Choir Canberra is a SATB choir and was formed in 1981. This highly respected choir is a major force in the promotion of Austrian culture and music in Canberra and the wider community in Australia. The Choir's main objective is to have fun and enjoy the musical experience while at the same time achieving a high level of excellence in its performances. Many of our singers do not speak German nor read music, but this is never an issue as we assist with pronunciation and provide translations of songs. The Choir has performed at the Wesley Music Centre Lunchtime Concert Series, at the High Court, Floriade and the Multicultural Food and Dance Festivals and sings regularly a Churches, Nursing Homes and Hospitals. It is invited every year to celebrate the Austrian National Day at the Austrian Embassy. As well as very successful concert tours of Austria (2007), Germany and Austria (September 2010) and Italy, Switzerland and Austria (September 2013), the choir celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Canberra School of Music in 2006 with a very well received Gala Concert. In June 2021 the Choir celebrated its 40th Anniversary at the Austrian Australian Club with another very successful concert. The Choir is a member of the Australischer S?ngerbund (the German Choral Association of Australia Inc.) and has participated in its triennial S?ngerfests since 1991. The Choir was the proud host of the 16th S?ngerfest in Canberra in October 2014. The Choir is also a member of ANCA (Australian National Choral Association). The Choir rehearses every Wednesday night at 7.30pm at the Harmonie German Club, 49 Jerrabomberra Ave. Narrabundah. The Musical Director is Geoff Roberts. New singers are always welcome to join this vibrant Choir. No audition is required - just a love of a broad spectrum of music and an ability to sing in German as well as English.
