    Description: Stories Through Song
Media Release – 21st April 2023 Stories Through Song… West Gippsland Chorale members, led by Musical Director, Mr. Nathan Byrne and accompanied by Ms. Chris Sim at the piano; are looking forward to presenting their first concert series for 2023. Concerts take place on Friday evening the 2nd and Sunday afternoon the 4th of June. The theme for this series is ‘Stories through Song…’ which reminds us of the power of music, and the power of singing together to convey stories. The stories within the repertoire may bring to mind a personal life event, the story of a reaction to historical events, or the stories and reminiscences of emotions which are held within poems. Musical Director Nathan is an experienced choral, classroom, and instrumental music teacher and is currently the Head of Performing Arts – Events at St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School. He is also well known for his involvement in community musical theatre in director and vocal coach roles. Accompanist Chris has performed locally and in Melbourne for many years, completing her formal music education at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Chris teaches music theory and piano privately as well as accompanying both chamber and solo engagements. Choral works composed by Daniel Elder, Ola Gjeilo, Maurice Durufle, and Jake Runestead are featured in the program, and while the theme of the concert sounds quite contemplative, the chorale will also be performing some well-known toe-tapping musical ‘stories’ in the form of ‘How High the Moon’ (arranged by Jay Althouse) and ‘Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho’ (arranged by Mark Hayes) As always, the Chorale likes to support younger performers in our community. ‘Wesley of Warragul’ provides an outstanding venue for the choir and the young performers alike to share music with our community, and to experience live performance. Concert dates and times are: Friday 2nd of June at 8pm and Sunday the 4th of June at 2pm Tickets can be purchased from Need2Read in Warragul, at 25B Victoria Street, online via trybooking and at the door.
