Monash Chorale Inc. is seeking a Musical Director to lead our choir. The position would suit a music graduate wishing to gain experience or an experienced person looking to support community culture. The choir was formed in 1995 and is supported by an active committee. It is a not-for profit and non-auditioned choir of mostly mature aged singers based in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
The choir is an SATB choir and the repertoire is varied, comprised of classical and sacred music, plus musicals, pop music and folk. Traditionally, the choir has performed three major concerts a year. Works that the choir has performed to date can be found on our website. Currently there are approx. 50 members and there is a regular accompanist.
The principal responsibilities of the Musical Director are to:
Conduct weekly rehearsals and concert performances
Promote and support an enjoyable learning environment for singers
Be responsible for the presentation standard of performances
Create a structured program and select appropriate music for the choir in consultation with the Committee
Find or select soloists and instrumental accompanists for performances
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:
Passion for community choirs and an ability to work with singers of a range of abilities, from competent soloists to beginners
Sound musical experience
An inclusive and open leadership style, and a commitment to having a positive relationship with all members of the Choir
An ability and desire to work with the committee to develop and implement a long-term plan for the choir
Previous experience as a choir leader is preferred We rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm in Glen Waverley. The position is from January 2023 but with earlier involvement in the development of the 2023 plan.
