The Berrima Singers The NSW Southern Highlands region (located an easy 90-minute drive from Sydney) boasts a high concentration of residents with a strong background and interest in the arts. A significant contributor to this burgeoning local arts scene for more than 50 years is the Berrima Singers. Based in Bowral, the Berrima Singers presents up to four concerts each year across the region. The group is equally at home performing sacred works as well as secular, a Capella and accompanied works from the Renaissance to more recent commissioned Australian works. Seeking a Director of Music Following the recent retirement of their long-standing Director of Music, the Berrima Singers is seeking to appoint an experienced Musical Director. The new Musical Director will bring the right combination of vision and experience, which will enable the group to maintain its current high reputation in the Southern Highlands. The role of Director of Music of the Berrima Singers will include:
Directing weekly rehearsals (remuneration to be discussed)
Developing the vocal capabilities of the choir through an understanding of correct vocal technique and challenging repertoire choices
Seeking performance opportunities and devising appropriate concert programs
Encouraging local partnerships for artistic collaboration and community service
A few details:
Currently the group of 34 choristers and accompanist meet weekly at St Jude’s Anglican Church in Bowral for a 90-minute rehearsal. (This can be increased as required).
Whilst much of the print music material currently used by the choir is drawn from the public domain, the Berrima Singers also maintains an extensive library of choral works and anthologies.
The day-to-day management of the (incorporated) Berrima Singers is by an annually elected Committee of 7 members which includes the Director of Music in the role of Vice President
As an unfunded community choir, choristers contribute an annual membership fee to offset ongoing expenses.
