MUSICAL DIRECTOR – PENRITH CITY CHOIR

Penrith City Choir is seeking a new Musical Director following our current Director’s decision to step down at the end of term 2, 2023 after 19 years of continuous service in the position.

About Penrith City Choir

The choir was established in 1977 and has operated continuously for the past 46 years.
Our Mission:
  1. to promote amateur choral singing
  2. to provide a community service
  3. to provide training in vocal and choral technique
Penrith City Choir has been in existence since 1977, producing many major concerts as well as being involved in local community and civil events. Performances include a range of choral repertoire both popular and classical often collaborating with Penrith Symphony Orchestra in performances of full-scale works. Throughout its long history the choir has sung under the direction of many well-known conductors including Graham Abbott, Michael Dyer, Marie Louise Catsalis, Paul Terracini, Sarah Penicka-Smith and Luke Spicer. Lucy McAlary was appointed Musical Director and Conductor of the choir in 2005.
 

The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings during school terms. Currently rehearsals are held in the Lower Blue Mountains but a return to a Penrith venue is a possible option.

Musical Director Core Competencies
 Applicants should demonstrate an ability to:

•   engage with choristers with a wide range of experience and skills;

•   develop programs that are suitable for performance by an amateur community choir;
•   obtain the services of guest soloists and instrumentalists;

•   conduct the choir and guest soloists and instrumentalists in performances; and
•   liaise with the committee on planning and delivering concert performances

Penrith City Choir’s Musical Director is paid per call for rehearsals, concerts and workshops at a very reasonable rate.


Applicants will be invited to conduct a trial choir rehearsal on a designated Wednesday evening towards the end of term 2.
